Abstract Body
Introduction: An emerging cause of nosocomial neonatal infections is found to beElizabethkingia meningoseptica. This pathogen belongs under the genus as aerobic bacillus in the genus Elizabethkingia .Apart from environment this opportunistic pathogen is found in oxygen tubings, water humidifiers, saline solutions. And is one of the fatal cause of neonatal deaths . Here we discuss about neonates admitted in our tertiary care NICU - one with and CSF iso and another with bloodstream infection due to E. meningoseptica.
Case presentation: Two preterm neonates in our tertiary NICU were found to have Elizabethkingia meningoseptica, both were initially managed for respiratory distress. One of them is late preterm male, who had late onset Klebsiella pneumonia sepsis later. Developed meningitis, CSF culture grew Elizabethkingia meningoseptica Other one is, very preterm girl baby who had late onset culture proven, which succumbed despite targeted therapy .
Conclusion: This case series highlights the clinical course and the challenges in neonates. Earlyculture-based diagnosis, prompt therapy , and strict infection control practices are essential to improve survival in this vulnerable population.
