Background : Arterial thrombosis is one of complication after pediatric cardiac catheterization. Approximately 1 in 5-10 patients will have thrombosis and require additional therapy. Several risk factors have been found to be associated with arterial thrombosis after cardiac catheterization, but the result is not conclusive. Material : We conducted case control study involving children aged less than 18 years old with congenital heart disease after cardiac catheterization procedure in Sardjito Hospital during October 2017 - April 2018. We analyzed patient’s medical record. Cases were patient with arterial thrombosis, whereas control group was those who without arterial thrombosis. We calculated odd ratio (OR) and its confidence interval of 95% to discriminate those with and without risk of arterial thrombosis. Results : Out of 162 children who underwent cardiac catheterization procedure, we enrolled 10 children with arterial thrombosis (6.2%) as cases and 20 children as controls. Bivariat analysis showed significant correlation between age < 1yo, bodyweight >10kg, and intervention cardiac catheterization with arterial thrombosis, but only body weight <10 kg (OR 12.8; CI95% 1.59-102.32; p=0.017), and intervention cardiac catheterization (OR 8.7; CI 95% 1.043-72.17; p=0.046) were statistically significant as the risk factor of arterial thrombosis after cardiac catheterization procedure on multivariat analysis. Male, acyanotic congenital heart disease, and abnormal hematocrit level were not significantly associated with arterial thrombosis Conclusions : Body weight <10 kg and intervention cardiac catheterization are risk factors of arterial thrombosis after cardiac catheterization in children with congenital heart disease.
