Correlation of Nutritional Status and Iron Deficiency Anemia in Patients in Nutritional Subdivision in Prof Dr dr R D Kandou Hospital Manado

Background : Iron deficiency anemia is a common disorder that often comes to children with malnutrition, severe malnutrition and obesity. This condition contributes to high morbidity and mortality in life Material : The study uses cross sectional approach. The total of 254 household samples were collected n the study were Patients in Nutrition subdivision at Prof dr RD Kandou Hospital Manado. Data were collected retrospectively from pediatric patients with criteria aged 1 to 16 years old who were admitted to the Nutritional subdivision of Prof Dr R.D Kandou. The present study used Gamma correlation coefficient analysis and Anova test Results : The results showed that patients with severe malnutrition with iron deficiency anemia were 60 patients with malnutrition (23.6%), 69 patients with severe malnutrition (27.1%), and 42 patients with obese (16.5%). 70 patients without malnutrition (27.5%) and 13 patients with overweight (0.05%) were found to have no iron deficiency anemia. Incidence of iron deficiency anemia occur most in severe malnutrition patients (40,3%), 35% malnutrition patients and 24,5% obesity patients. Result of correlation show ? <0,05. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of iron deficiency anemia Conclusions : Malnutrition has a significant relationship with the incidence of iron deficiency anemia in children aged 1 to 16 years old in Prof Dr R D Kandou Hospital Manado
